Ground Beef & Chopped Cabbage Haiku: "Reduced for ane lb., (and used ane can tomatoes.) Needs more seasoning."Gotta say that for the ease of prep (and I used a bag of coleslaw mix for the cabbage, making this even easier!) this was nice, comfort nutrient. Had a bite while it was simmering and ended upwards adding probably one/ii tsp. more than Italian seasoning, along w/ 1/four tsp. paprika, 1/4 tsp. celery seed, and heavy southward&p, as it was a bit defective in flavor department. (We ordinarily consume our cabbage moosh-mosh dishes due west/ kielbasa rather than ground beefiness, which gives it more flavour, so this just kinda needed a kick. The other kick we gave it was some Sriracha sauce at the table.) Makes a ton, fifty-fifty though I dropped the meat to a pound and the tomatoes to 1 tin, but the leftovers were equally as good, and I imagine that it would likewise freeze well too.

Easy recipe and delicious likewise. I added beef goop for added season. I will be making this again. Give thanks y'all for sharing.
01/17/2015
This was a satisfying repast, nothing fancy, but only skillful, erstwhile-fashioned, domicile-cooked food. I did discover it a chip little weak on flavor, and then I did add more seasoning. Enjoyed, and thanks for sharing your recipe.

12-4-2017 ~ I've turned out some pretty adept things in the kitchen strictly with the purpose in mind of using express ingredients at hand. This was the case here. I suppose I'm unusual for routinely going back and along from our homes in Wisconsin and in Naples, FL with boxes of produce cleared out from the fridge that I don't desire to waste. The particular head of cabbage I used for this dish today made the journey here twice, and I was determined NOT to pack it in a suitcase for the third fourth dimension! I started out by sautéing a few strips of chopped salary, then cooked the onions in the salary fatty. This, I knew, would add another dimension of flavor. Non a fan of "Italian seasoning," I seasoned it up with a couple of cloves of fresh minced garlic rather than garlic powder (had the garlic in the suitcase besides), basil, oregano, Worcestershire sauce, and Montreal Steak Seasoning - and a couple extra globs of butter didn't injure either. I added fresh mushrooms (yes, brought downwards here with me in the suitcase). I eliminated the cherry pepper flakes, the added seize with teeth non being necessary for me. This is simple, habitation cooked condolement food, expert as is, merely there's goose egg wrong with embellishing it a bit. I constitute this "Suitcase Supper" quite pleasant and very satisfying. Notation: Ideally I call back this would be even ameliorate with the addition of some rice, but since I restrict carbs I restrained myself from that enticing pick.
06/18/2015
I really liked this. I didn't really measure the ingredients, but used only a pound of ground beef, great low carb meal, really filling n made plenty of left overs for me. my kids 2 &4 not really interested in it, bur then again I wasn't expecting them to
01/05/2016
I fabricated several changes! Instead of ground beef I used basis chicken and "hot craven" sausage, which gave this dish more flavour and zip! Forth with that I used ane can each of hot and medium "Rotel" and ane can of diced tomatoes instead of tomato sauce! As well Kosher common salt and pepper to taste! Everything else was as called for. Many comments on this recipe mentioned it being a footling banal but with my changes it was excellent!
01/05/2017
I was thinking of making cabbage rolls this night but remembered I had this recipe in my favs. Then glad, as well because information technology was super easy and quick to make. Just want to say that I am glad there are reviews that show what people do differently because it really helps to cater to the different tastes in my family. So, on that notation... I added mild Italian sausage with basis chicken and I apply real garlic instead of the powder. Added some shredded carrots and followed the residual of the recipe. I love the thought of rice, but husband doesn't, so I made that on the side for whoever wanted to add together it. I don't usually measure my seasonings, I add together to taste and information technology turned out delicious. Will definitely be making this again!
09/27/2018
This was delicious. I don't measure my seasonings and I simply add whatever seems will taste good. With that said I used thyme and herbs de Provence, blackness pepper and herbed common salt forth with Worcestershire sauce, garlic, blood-red and sweet onion, ground turkey instead of beef, shredded carrots, eggplant that I had leftover, cabbage, Rotel tomatoes with green chilies, a tin of stewed tomatoes AND a can of white beans. We splashed on some hot sauce at the table and it was fantastic. Would make again and again.
01/26/2018
I really savour this dish! I've made information technology several times now, followed tips from others... more seasoning needed. I used 2T fresh minced garlic, 1T kosher salt, 1T Italian seasoning, 2t crushed red pepper. Likewise added 1t amend than bouillon beef broth (blended in 1/4c hot water) to beef after browned.
04/xxx/2015
very good and easy. I had read the reviews then I fabricated adjustments to add flavour. I added: 1 beef bouillon cube, paprika, celery salt and red pepper. It was a crowd pleaser. Thanks for sharing :)
04/17/2016
I subbed 1 8oz can of tomato paste and a 6oz can of tomato sauce for the 15oz tin can of tomato sauce. When all done added two cups of cooked rice, let it simmer for ten more minutes to absorb some of the liquid and information technology was prepare. Very tasty. Too, I forgot to mention. I used 1lb ground beefiness 8oz of Italian sausage for actress flavour.
02/29/2016
I made this tonight, but failed to read the other reviews - big error! Even though I accidentally added extra Italian seasoning, it was very bland and the sauce was thin and watery. I was expecting a thicker savory sauce. I think maybe in that location should have been 2 cans of tomato sauce with one can of tomatoes, and maybe some lycopersicon esculentum paste. With the leftovers, I'm going to add together some rice to thicken up the sauce and maybe some Worchestershire sauce, smoked paprika and more garlic to meet if that helps. I'd actually idea this would be more similar blimp cabbage, only sauce is just mode as well watery and flavorless - it leaves an unappealing watery puddle when you spoon it over rice. Sorry I couldn't be as generous as the other reviewers, who plain rated information technology based on their improvements.
08/twenty/2015
Succulent! I used cherry-red cabbage, so it by and large looks more highly-seasoned. They say, you consume with your eyes starting time. I also added more seasoning.
06/15/2015
It was a good repast. More filling than I thought it would be. I added more seasoning and it was bully.
10/sixteen/2016
Yeah information technology was good and easy. Yous tin can really add anything from the fridge that needs to be used up likewise.
08/18/2016
And then yummy! Great pick for me and my family since I don't have to add rice or noodles for myself. I ate it alone and the kids and husband ate information technology over egg noodles. Only the right corporeality of kicking from the chili flakes. I recommend lean ground beef and one-half the tomatoes in the recipe. I as well doubled the garlic powder considering I love the stuff.
07/18/2015
A keeper. Glad I used the pepper flakes or might accept been kind of bland.
07/14/2017
Very easy to make. I only used i can of diced tomatoes (really past fault) and it turned out great. Keen and filling for a repast without lots of carbs.
01/09/2017
I didn't use carmine pepper simply I did use sausage instead of ground beef. I used 1.5 numberless of reddish cabbage and only 8oz of love apple sauce. I should take drained the tomatoes because information technology was soupy. My husband really liked it but I thought information technology was besides sweet. I had to double the Italian seasoning and definitely use south &p or it'll be too banal.
06/22/2017
Surprisingly my husband and girl loved this dish because they usually hate cabbage. There were no leftovers!
02/24/2018
I've been making this recipe for quite one-time. It'south filling, easy, and the family loves it. Made it by the recipe the first time I cooked this and everybody said information technology needed "something" - likewise bland. I use lots of unlike seasonings depending on my mood. Mexican is our favorite- cumin, cilantro, chili powder, lots of garlic and at least one can of Rotel tomatoes. I like mine over cornbread with a side of hot buttered cornbread! Any way you lot spice it upwardly is good!
02/03/2018
It was great. I had some frozen cabbage from my summer harvest. I like rice in my goulash so I added 1 cup of rice and some extra liquid. I used broth simply tomato plant juice would take also worked.
03/22/2017
Made this the other mean solar day; grewt flavor (folllowed instructions pretty close). Paired with potatoes.
11/23/2017
A great idea. Cooked upward very quickly. I did add more spices, as per other reviews: 1/ii tsp salt, 1/2 tsp pepper, ane/2 tsp paprika, one/2 tsp celery seed, three/4 tsp Italian Seasoning. I did not add the diced tomatoes, just the tomato sauce, and but 1 lb of beef. I also added a lot of mushrooms, like 6 big white mushrooms, and increased the oil (avocado oil). Paired it with a yam for a fairly Paleo dinner. I got rave reviews! I expected to have to allow the liquid reduce for a long fourth dimension, but I did not. It was juicy, but there was not really any extra liquid.
03/07/2017
I'grand giving 4 stars, only with my adjustments it was a total five. I used iii fresh tomatoes that I diced myself and I added a tin can of stewed tomatoes hat I had along with the tomato sauce. I used seasoning on manus and a squirt or ii of sriracha... on acme of rice it gustatory modality merely like blimp cabbage. Even my three quondam devoured it.
12/29/2019
For me, this recipe was good as is but I tin never help "punching it up" Then... I added the following: To the onion/meat mixture: 1/4-1/ii c red wine 1/2 t fennel seeds 1/two t anchovy paste (no fishy taste, simply some umpf)! Afterwards calculation cabbage: one c water 1 t vegetable bullion 1/2 c uncooked rice Served with grated cheese (your choice). Information technology was a very hearty meal and quite delicious.
01/08/2020
Big Change for this recipe is one of the principal ingredients: the Meat. Use one-half Italian sausage (the sugariness kind, Johnson is preferred) half ground beefiness. Personally I employ the ground beef from the natural food store. It tastes better. If I am going to cook the result might as well be as tasty as possible.
09/10/2019
I made this the other dark, and it was a very hearty, condolement food type dish. I am not i that likes a lot of hot, spicy or bold flavor, only every bit others said, at that place wasn't much flavour, even though I added lots of garlic, oregano and lots of pepper and some salt. I liked this recipe and will make it again, but with much, much more seasoning. I strongly suggest you read the reviews of others and consider adding some of the flavour enhancing seasonings suggested.
04/12/2019
It needs more flavor, I added more than vegetables & seasonings.
07/02/2019
I made half a recipe because it is only the 2 of us and leftovers can be an event. My husband loved this!! Easy to make and store. Great use for the cabbage we grew in the garden.
03/fifteen/2017
Very adept and hearty, adjacent time I will add together bacon for a different twist.
11/07/2019
This is a family unit comfort food in the cold months but I do add on a few of my ain flares :) i Tbsp garlic pulverisation, ~1 Tbsp kosher salt, fresh cracked ground pepper, 1 Tbsp Montreal steak seasoning, two Tbsp Italian seasoning, worchestire sauce, 1 c beef broth, ~1/3 c red wine, the canned tomatoes I utilize have garlic, basil and oregano added in and a couple of tablespoons of carbohydrate to cut the acidity. And I certainly let information technology simmer longer and proceed warm to enhance the flavour. Serve it upwards over some rice and information technology's phenomenal.
01/17/2018
I followed the recipe exactly. I loved the season. My only recommendation would exist to utilize a half a head of cabbage or to double the meat. The cabbage vs. beefiness ratio seemed style off and it seemed more than like beef flavored cabbage instead of having the two of them co-star. Other than that, I'd highly recommend if you're looking for some simple home cooked comfort food.
09/08/2019
Merely iii stars-according to the directions, what is the cabbage supposed to simmer in? The ground beefiness grease, the tomato sauce and juice from the canned tomatoes? Still not enough liquid. I made this cooking the cabbage separately from all other ingredients, then putting the beef mixture in with the cabbage and letting information technology simmer to meld the flavors for a few minutes. (And who would desire to eat greasy cabbage?!)
10/31/2017
Similar one of the previous readers, I only used one can of diced lycopersicon esculentum.
05/02/2017
I made information technology with spinach instead of cabbage (no cabbage in the fridge, but a lot of spinach.) I as well added some mushrooms. delicious!
01/28/2018
Loved it with some changes. As suggested, I increased the seasoning (later on tasting it and finding it dull): I tripled the garlic and Italian seasoning, added celery seed and a chip more pepper flakes. I too used fresh garlic. I used close to twice every bit much cabbage and a chip more tomato (plus a dab of love apple paste to thicken it); dissimilar some of the reviewers I prefer vegetable-heavy main dishes. With those changes, yum! I served it over brown rice.
09/25/2019
I followed recipe every bit directed. Was to much for just me so I shared information technology with family. Family ate it but did not want to have it again. I myself liked it. Next day tried it with a package of beef Ramen noodles and enjoyed it fifty-fifty more. Will attempt it again merely will need to try to lessen the recipe
02/06/2020
Fabricated according to receipe. Used petite diced tomatoes.
08/19/2020
Came together in a snap! I used frozen cabbage & onions that I'd previously prepped for quick dinners. Hubby loved information technology.
03/02/2017
this looks adept
02/03/2016
so skillful! i added more seasoning than the recipe called for. i volition definitely make again. it was so easy.
11/26/2016
I added a fiddling beef broth. I will be making this again.
12/14/2016
Nifty recipe
02/19/2020
As it is information technology's good. Used basis pork and rotel unsalted next round and was ameliorate.
10/17/2017
My husband and I lov d it!
12/06/2016
This is an amazing recipe. I read the reviews and followed all the suggestions such as additional spices, rotel, rice, and beef burgoo. It turned out fantastic and will brand again. Every bit someone suggested, you can put anything you have in the kitchen in it! Highly recommend for a common cold weather meal. Thank you for sharing!
07/27/2017
I made this with 1.25 lbs of ground turkey and followed the balance of the directions exactly. I liked it! But I can see why some reviewers needed more than flavor, the skillful thing is, yous can easily tweak this to your tastes. You can add beans or a variety of vegetables and it'll still be good. I threw in some shredded chicken (my people demand lots of protein) and additional spices, it was delicious. I can imagine a little andouille sausage or smoked sausage would be succulent besides. It makes a large amount and depending on what y'all exercise to information technology, is petty healthy. It easy and versatile.
02/12/2019
I fabricated this ane easy by just buying a purse of coleslaw mix instead of chopping upward a head of cabbage, cutting out some prep time, Plus it adds carrots in the mix!
07/23/2021
The recipe was pretty skilful, simply I did put my own spin on things a trivial bit. I also served information technology over white rice. Information technology was delicioso!
09/11/2019
Easy weeknight dinner. Tasted actually good. I did add a bit more than Italian seasoning and used minced garlic.
06/18/2017
awesome, doubled chopped tomatoes, added ribs and sausage. real gooddddd
04/08/2020
very tasty,, easy to make and made the business firm aroma really good
02/27/2017
Good concept but needed boosted seasoning every bit some of the other reviewers noted. I added Franks Red Hot Sauce, smoked paprika, and was definitely heavy handed on the salt, pepper, garlic powder & Italian seasonings.
03/25/2018
left off italian seasoning and added carraway seed and celery seed
04/03/2017
I added a few more spices.
eleven/24/2019
Simple ,basic and very good.
03/18/2019
We'll make this once more. Followed the recipe the style its writing and loved it.
01/25/2017
This is the starting time time that I have made an Allrecipe recipe. I followed the recipe and we loved it. We will exist adding it to the repast rotation.
09/17/2019
Added more boot just I like a lot of spice!
02/ten/2020
Was a very hearty meal. I had to add together another tin of lycopersicon esculentum sauce and I added chopped garlic as well and extra seasoning. We both enjoyed it and I will brand it again
05/20/2017
I liked the dish merely it wasn't a hit with the family unit . Information technology came out every bit information technology was supposed to , they only said not till next winter ,,maybe .
01/24/2019
I ran out of cerise pepper flakes. It was too bland and then I added Habanero sauce, diced green chiles, additional garlic and italian seasoning. Turned out actually good once I spiced it up.
03/04/2020
This was delicious! Makes an easy keto main dish. I added one Tbsp of Italian seasoning and a lot of salt and pepper. My cabbage took 45 min. to cook, non 25. I recommend this! It will be 1 of my favorites, and should exist easy to freeze for repast prep.
09/24/2019
I added Kosher salt and doubled the spices. Besides, I sauteed the onions with fresh garlic. It'south very good and quite comforting. Great use of the cabbage. My husband enjoyed it even though he hates cabbage.
02/06/2020
I did non modify information technology except added a little more red pepper flakes considering I similar a piffling rut. Only in that location is so much you could add together if you wanted to.
ten/21/2021
Used Tobasco salt & garlic pepper instead of the regular Southward&P, and WOW! Not only incredibly tasty, merely very filling. Oh, and actually easy to prepare. Perfect thing to warm you on a chilly day!
02/21/2021
Great if you're trying to avoid gluten.
06/12/2017
Very Practiced.... I added some Tumeric and Curry to add a little extra flavor......
05/20/2017
It was very good! I read the reviews and used nigh 2x Italian seasoning, 2 cloves of garlic, one tin can of diced tomatoes and 1/2 jar of spaghetti sauce. It was much less liquid-y than I think information technology was supposed to be, merely was very tasty! My husband thought it was a bully replacement for pasta, as the taste was similar, and was very filling and satisfying. Will make again. (iv stars because I modified a bit - very practiced!!)
05/21/2018
I brand this using lean footing turkey instead of beefiness for a healthier version. (The season is no different, but my Dr loves the difference in my cholesterol levels!). Instead of diced tomatoes I utilize stewed tomatoes, and dice them myself. The flavor is delicious! I use double the garlic powder, and Italian seasoning as well, and very picayune salt, maybe a teaspoon. Then permit it simmer for an hour for the flavors to marry. I portion into 6 servings instead of 10, freeze it and take information technology to work for my supper!
02/25/2017
We liked information technology very much and will make information technology over again. Did non brand any changes. The seasonings were just correct.
02/25/2019
One of our weekly staples. So succulent.
05/20/2020
My family unit actually liked this. We aren't super large on love apple-ey flavors, so I but used ane tin of hot Rotel, and no tomato plant sauce. I used some powdered Beef burgoo, and nearly one-half the rotel can of water. Plus all the other seasonings, doubled, except salt, b/c of the bouillon. I as well added corn and celery since I had information technology as leftovers and extra veges are adept. Plus, used a bag of cabbage mix instead of a head. It simmered for a solid 25 minutes and it was actually good. Made a lot and the teens agreed that it was a keeper. Served it with biscuits.
11/eleven/2016
I simply changed the ground beef to ground turkey. I used 1# turkey and 8oz chicken breakfast cooked links. Depending on cabbage size, it may thicken too much. Just add together a trivial water, a pinch more than salt to taste. Great with rye, sour dough bread. Am making again!
01/06/2017
This is an easy recipe and it is proficient. I did add more spices . I would brand it again.
06/23/2020
I added a few more vegetables, seasonings, and a cup of rice. It was very tasty and made alot, so hubby will have tiffin for a couple of days!
07/28/2020
Very nice dish. Easy and fast to make. I'll brand this one again!!!
01/08/2017
I made this a couple days ago and it was not the greatest. Some suggestions I take are to apply as much fresh ingredients as possible i.e. Tomatoes. Add celery for that missing sweetness and some vegetable goop would be helpful. It was better the 2d day though.
01/18/2021
Information technology was good but I think I demand to work on this better next fourth dimension.
07/26/2021
I've made this dish for years, or something similar. I use Rotel instead of regular diced tomatoes & I add together some Worcestershire sauce. It is delicious!
01/12/2022
delicious, used ground turkey from Aldi's, and chopped cabbage from Sam'south, did not put in tomato sauce, and did not add oil. Also husband suggested nosotros add together some bell pepper chopped. Very delicious, give thanks you!!!
09/sixteen/2017
My husband said make again right later eating it. I followed recipe. Cutting recipe in one-half. And read some reviews about the flavor. I didn't add more than it called for, but personally felt it could've maybe used more garlic or salt, otherwise pretty skillful. Reminded me of stuffed cabbage minus the rice. It was a hearty and healthy meal you can feel good about feeding your family.
07/17/2017
Really proficient. You could add a few more veggies for variety, like carrots.
08/24/2017
I have to say, this is pretty dang good. HOWever...I did season equally recommended by other reviewers. I doubled the Italian Seasoning and added more garlic powder and crushed crimson pepper. Besides, I added at least a teaspoon of sweet paprika and a few shakes of smoked paprika and added a one-half tablespoon of Worcestershire sauce. AND...I used ground turkey which tasted great...and less than the called for amount of cabbage. As I eyeballed it, it seemed like I'd have Mode too much cabbage with a whole small one. I also added a niggling chicken stock to the onions as they were cooking. Overall, my husband was very pleasantly surprised by this ane as was I. I'd definitely make it again. Super like shooting fish in a barrel and a keen mode to use up some cabbage if yous have some laying around in the fridge. OH, and I used all the called for tomatoes and sauce and didn't find it to be too petty or too much. I thought information technology was perfect. : ) Savour!
eleven/11/2016
This was excellent, with some changes. I did increase the seasonings in the recipe and added a few boosted ones. It makes a large amount.
02/20/2019
Not a hearty meal at all. Completely lacking in season, per the other reviews. Came out very tomatoey & blank. Waste material of my footing beef.
12/31/2016
I used fresh chopped tomatoes instead of canned. With the ruby pepper, it had a kick to information technology and the Italian spices were just perfect. I used fresh minced garlic instead of garlic powder and didn't cook the onions equally much.
03/02/2017
Fabricated this tonight, it was just okay. Married man wasn't a fan at all. I added more spices every bit per other reviews. Was very watery so served it over rice. It's bland fifty-fifty with extra spices and hot sauce. If I arrive again I will really take to come with a programme to vamp it up.
02/28/2020
It was like eating a stuffed cabbage in casserole form. We are going to try a piddling more Italian seasoning next fourth dimension. Easy to brand, only cover pan when simmering and so the cabbage can steam.
01/08/2020
needs more than meat.
08/11/2020
My family loved the recipe. I cut downwardly the diced tomatoes to one and 1/2 cans and didn't think it was soupy at all. I wish I had looked at what goes into Italian seasoning showtime because I'1000 not a fan of rosemary and the odour of it was a bit off putting. However the taste wan't affected by it (which is funny). Anyway, I will likely leave that out adjacent time and follow others' advice for seasoning. Great, cheap and comforting meal overall!! And it tastes better the next day too!
01/05/2017
I will definitely make this once again. I substituted ground turkey for the basis beef, used one can of tomatoes instead of 2 and added beefiness bouillon. This turned out very tasty. I cull not to pair mine with rice or pasta, it was perfect without the extra.
09/05/2020
I really liked this! I did add extra garlic and extra salt, merely it wasn't as bland equally I thought it would be based on what other reviews had said. I'll definitely be making this again!
07/x/2018
instead of rice i used no yoke noodles information technology was perfect,,,thanks
01/21/2017
I just used ane can diced tomatoes, eliminated the reddish pepper, and added onion soup packet, 1/4 cup apple tree cider vinegar and a couple tablespoons brown saccharide. It was great and tasted but similar the stuffed cabbage my family unit loves but without the rice. Definitely a recipe I volition keep.
03/19/2019
This was exceptional! I did read the reviews and did a few suggestions. As far as the seasonings, I added some that were suggested and some that were not. When all was put together, I did add virtually a half a box of beef broth. This made it more like a soup which I wanted. As for those mentioning using rice, wasn't necessary for me. I imagine the leftovers will exist even ameliorate. Wonderful dinner.........
02/10/2022
I loved it. I used my ain judgement with the seasonings.
04/08/2021
I have been making this for years. In lieu of the tomatoes and red sauce, I use beefiness broth.
